Accepted participants can now make hotel reservations for their stay in Pittsburgh at the Holiday Inn Express (20 South Tenth Street, 412-488-1130).

The Holiday Inn Express is located a short walk across the 10th Street Bridge to Duquesne University and downtown Pittsburgh. It is also a very short walk from Carson Street on the "South Side," where you will find many restaurants, bars, cafes, etc.

The reduced group rate is $114 per night per room. This rate is available for rooms from August 1st through August 9th. If you do not plan to attend the Participants' Conference (Aug 2-3), that won't be a problem with the hotel, you can make a room reservation to begin on August 3rd, or 4th. Since symposium activities will begin promptly Monday morning, August 4th, we recommend that you arrive in Pittsburgh by Sunday evening, the 3rd.

If you plan to make your reservation via the internet rather than phone, use the link supplied in our email to you regarding this. The hotel set up this link to guarantee that you get the discounted rate.

Also, we strongly encourage participants to coordinate with each other to share rooms to cut down on costs. Most of the rooms in our block have two Queen beds, accommodating two people, or four people if you don't mind sharing a bed, comfortably.

The deadline to make a room reservation at the discounted rate is July 18, 2014.

See the following link for information on the Pittsburgh Public Transportation system, which is mostly by bus. FYI, there is an easy, reliable bus between the Pittsburgh Airport and Downtown/Duquesne: the 28X, which you can catch immediately outside the airport on the curb designated for public ground transportation. See the second link below to a PDF of the 28X schedule/map. If you use this, get off at the Duquesne University Footbridge stop, NOT the Duquesne Incline stop.  The Duquesne University Footbridge stop is right on the freeway, but there is a large staircase right there.  If you go up it, it will take you onto the Duquesne campus.  If you go down the staircase, it will take you to the 10th Street Bridge, which you can walk across to get to the Holiday Inn Express.  Alternatively, if you prefer to take a taxi from the bus to the hotel, any of the stops downtown will work easily enough.
